Sharmila Pais

Sharmila Pais is an Associate Professor in History at St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa-Goa. She has experience in teaching for the last 23 years in this institution.  She took up a minor research project on the Constitutional Regime of Goa, sponsored by the University Grants Commission-New Delhi. She travelled to Portugal in 2015 to research on her doctoral thesis History and Politics of Elections in Goa (1821-1961). She thereafter completed her thesis in 2018 from Goa University. Dr. Pais has presented several papers at international, national and state level seminars on various themes related to the history of Goa. Sharmila Pais has also published chapters in various books. In October 2021, she published her first work titled The Encounter with the Ballot in Colonial Goa: A Historical and Analytical Perspective (1822-1961). Currently, she is engaged with another publication related to the history of Goa and would be published within a year.  Is a member of the International Group For Studies of Colonial Periodical Press of the Portuguese Empire (IGSCP-PE), Goa-Chapter.
