CD25A-UC, created in December 1984, is currently one of the UC's Cultural Extension and Training Support Units. It carries out its activities with autonomy, performed in compliance with the global lines of the UC's scientific, cultural, and pedagogical policy. Its mission is to recover, organize and make available valuable documentary material on the Portuguese democratic transition scattered throughout the country and abroad in the possession of people or social, political, cultural, and religious organizations. It guarantees that the documentation collected is scrupulously preserved and carefully processed. With a team made up of a director and four LIS professionals, it combines the characteristics of different types of organizations. It is a specialized library devoted to supporting researchers and university students. Its collections include different types of media. Given the lack of a policy in Portugal to collect private archives of public interest, it has always welcomed donations, which has made it one of the richest Portuguese history archives of the 20th century, the main on the political events of April 25, 1974 (antecedents - opposition and resistance to the dictatorship from the end of the 1950s - and consequences - from after April 25 to the constitutional period). At the same time, it is a public reading library, having developed projects that are both iconic and up to date, making it a benchmark institution in its field at national and international level.
