Sandra Ataíde Lobo
PhD in History and Theory of Ideas. Researcher contracted by Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas-Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, no CHAM- Centre for the Humanities, with the project The Home and the World: the Goan intellectual elite and the colonial periodical press, articulating research on Goan anticolonial intellectuality with fostering the IGSCP-PE, of which I am one of the initiators and coordinators. I am also part of the team of principal editors of Práticas da História: Journal on Theory, Historiography and Uses of the Past (https://praticasdahistoria.pt/). I was awarded PhD and Post-Doc FCT Grants to develop projects that had a strong component of studies of colonial press. Between 1988 and 2005, I was a professional in libraries and archives (Portugal, India), namely at the Portuguese National Archive, the newspaper Público, the Diocese of Cochin, the Lisbon’s newspaper library and the library Silva Dias of the Centro de História da Cultura, FCSH-NOVA. I carry this experience to my scientific worries and interests. As member, since1994, of the Seminário Livre de História das Ideias (Free Seminary for the History of Ideas), FCSH-NOVA, I participated in projects related with Portuguese political and cultural modernity, namely about “vintismo” and twentieth century cultural magazines (https://slhi.pt/). I contribute to the theorization of the concept of colonial periodical press, namely within the IGSCP-PE, and studied since my doctorate the rich archive of Goan press. Also collaborated with the creation of press research lines in the projects Pensando Goa (USP/FAPESP) and ORION – Portuguese Orientalism (FLUL).
Along the last years, my interests expand to the aim of contributing to the theorization and practice of a cosmopolitan historiography, linked to the idea of Academia as a democratic international community engaged with the reduction of inequalities and with a dialogic approach to conflictual memories around common pasts. As a member of the IGSCP-PE, I am coeditor of the books published by Routledge and of the O Liberalismo e a imprensa colonial= The Liberalism and the colonial press, to be published by the Portuguese Studies Review/Baywolf Press. I also publish regularly articles in academic journals and book chapters around press, and discuss related PhD and Master Thesis.
