Carla Francisco
Carla Francisco holds a PhD in Romance studies, with a specialization in Portuguese and Brazilian studies, from Aix Marseille Université. She is currently a lecturer in the Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies at the same university and is associated with the Institut des Mondes Africains (IMAF CNRS IRD). Her thesis dealt with the representation of urban slavery in the lithographic print market in Rio de Janeiro, through the case study of the lithographs of Frederico Guilherme Briggs. She is a specialist on the subject of urban slavery in the graphic arts and illustrated press in the Empire of Brazil and its connections with other print markets in the Atlantic world. Her most recent production is the issue 42 of the Cahiers des études romanes (Altérité et Marginalité. La représentation de l’Autochtone et du Noir en Amérique latine), published in 2022.
