International Seminar "Arquivo e Memória da Imprensa
Cabo-Verdiana e Africana", 7-8 December 2023
The First International Seminar of the IGSCP-PE in Cape Verde, with the theme Archive and Memory of the Cape-Verdian and African Press, has been held on the 7th and 8th of December 2023, at the Instituto do Arquivo Nacional de Cabo Verde, Praia.
It was a joint initiave of the Cape-Verdian Institute of the Cape Verde National Archive with the IGSCP-PE, and counted with the support of CHAM - Centro de Humanidades, NOVA-FCSH, the CEComp - Centro de Estudos Comparatistas, FLUL and the UniCV - Universidade de Cabo Verde.
It had as special guest, João Pedro George, a former Portuguese exile in England, who in 1972 interviewed Amilcar Cabral for the review Anticolonialism, the only known interview offered by this anticolonial thinker to a Portuguese periodical, being also considered the most significant offered before being killed on Jannuary 1973. João Pedro George presented the context and shared the interview. The recorded audio of this interview was for the first time heard in Cape Verde, symbolically starting the celebrations of the First Centenary of Amilcar Cabral's birth. It was followed by a debate.
The event also included a guided tour to the exhibition "IANCV 1842-2022: A História, a Cultura e as Gentes das Ilhas" (IANCV 1842-2022: the History, the Culture and the Peoples of the Islands), in addition to other events.
