Israel Campos
Israel Campos (Luanda, 2000) is a PhD student in Media and Communication at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, researching the Angolan post-colonial press, with a focus on the Popular Republic of Angola (1975–1991). A journalist and writer, he holds a master's degree in Strategic Communication and Leadership from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and a bachelor's degree in Journalism from City University of London. Since 2023, he has been a member of the Portuguese President's Reflection Group ‘O Futuro Já Começou’ (The Future Has Already Begun) and in 2024 he won the Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda/Angola Literary Prize. Campos has experience as an international freelance journalist for media outlets such as the BBC, Al Jazeera and Voice of America, focusing on Angolan politics and society, having started his professional career at Rádio Nacional de Angola in Luanda. He published the novel E o Céu Mudou de Cor (And the Sky Changed Colour) in 2023. He received the Press Freedom Award from the Angolan Journalists' Union (SJC) in 2024 and the EU GCCA+ Youth Award (2021). He actively participates in interdisciplinary research initiatives, with an interest in African media history, political communication and global development.
