Interview of Amilcar Cabral to the magazine Anticolonialismo
|
On 27 October 1971, Pedro George and José Medeiros Ferreira interviewed Amilcar Cabral to the magazine Anticolonialismo published in London. The conversation occurred at the headquarters of the Committee for Freedom in Mozambique, Angola and Guinea, orgazination of which they were active collaborators, a kind of embassy of the African liberation movements from Portuguese colonialism, which counted with the support of British Labour Party and some sindicates. Fortunately, the young exiles recorded the conversation and kept the tape. It is acknowledged as the only interview offered by Amilcar to Portuguese and the most important of the last offered by him. Amilcar Cabral would be assassined on January 1973. The content has premonitory aspects, clear messages to the Portuguese government and approaches significant themes in Cabral's thought, developped in other contexts. It is good to hear it time and again with renewed attention to grasp its amplitude. 34 very interesting minutes!
We thank Pedro George for the generosity of his sharing, as well as accepting to share the two issues of the Anticolonialismo for digitalization, which will integrate our Common Virtual Exhibition. |
